Come and get ’em – edupunk merit badges

In the rush and clamour to define “edupunk” (I mean, sheesh, a freakin’ wikipedia article???) I realized what was missing – Merit Badges! What punk doesn’t love some external validation, a way to show off their true inner edupunk, be part of the club.

And so without further ado, we bring you …

  1. All kidding aside, if you want to really know how I feel about this (I mean Jim’s original idea, not all the silly follow up) I think I captured it pretty well in the comment I left here. I really don’t give a rat’s ass about labels, but I do care about the dumbed down corpratized vision of learning we are constantly getting away with shilling as educational technologists (read “CMS administrators”) and have personally committed myself to something different, label or no label.

  2. Scott, that sums it up nicely. It’s not about the name, or rebellion, or anything other than encouraging people to think for themselves, and to DIY. Actually, it’s really a shame that this is considered rebellious. This should be the status quo…

  3. Oh these are just spot on Scott. If edupunk has done nothing else, it’s injected some fun into the whole ed tech blogosphere. Making my vid was the most creative fun I’ve had in ages.
On the subject of the vid – I owe you an apology, I was so busy trying to track down all the images links, I forgot to credit your text, so it may look as though I was trying to claim it for myself. Sorry, it was the result of an oversight amidst the creative chaos rather than a rampant ego.
