E-learning Competency Centre’s Learning Objects Competition Website

Stephen pointed to this ongoing competition site as a chance to view a fair number of learning objects in one place. More than that, these are all what you would call “rich” multi-media objects, most often done in Authorware or Flash, with each typically covering a distinct ‘unit’ of learning.

I went through a half-dozen or more, and what was striking to me was the extent to which visual design, not instructional design, was the overriding factor in how receptive I was to the material. As much as I think some of these illustrate how effective rich multimedia can be for communicating complex ideas, they also hide another aspect of how increasingly complex development teams must become (or how increasingly multi-faceted instructional developers need to become) to handle the demands or rich multi-media objects. Well worth a look – SWL
